god loveth a cheerful giver
thank you, evangelical Christianity
for conditioning me to give 10% of
my income to the church without
blinking even when I could barely
pay my bills / now I happily pay micro-
reparations so my Black siblings can
find joy and rest / I highly recommend
this purer form of tithes and offerings

Happy Black History Month! If you're looking for some resources, I'll be reviewing a book a day on Instagram + making some reels + IG lives with some Black creatives + sharing ways we can use our $ to give our Black siblings some rest this month. Stay tuned! I also want to invite you to a writing workshop I'm facilitating with my friend, Cara Meredith, on February 16th from 8pm-9:30 ET. It's called Upcycling Words That No Longer Fit, and we'll be redeeming/repurposing our old, worn-out words into something new and beautiful. Join us! And I'd also love for you to join my writing community here on Substack. In addition to this free poem every Thursday, we chat about our writing journeys every Monday and Thursday. Fun times! What are you reading/learning/sharing for Black History Month?
I’m listening to Tyler Merritt, I Take My Coffee Black. I’m ashamed to say I see a blurry reflection of myself in many of his chapters. I’m learning, and will do better. I’m listening, instead of talking. I’m learning I was, am a recovering fragile zealot. Sigh.
Love, love this!
