I’m a lot (and I like it) Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself, (I am large, I contain multitudes.)* I hate to admit it but every now and again an old dead white guy kind of nails it *(credit to Ralph Waldo Emerson for words in italics)
This is a poem from my new book, please cut up my poems. If you’d like a signed copy, it’s $15 (which includes free US shipping and a FREE piece of poem art—I have a couple hundred to choose from).
Anybody else contain multitudes?
So I have toted these exact lines in my heart’s back pocket since first reading them as a teenager. They have appeared in social media bios and other self-descriptions I’ve written for myself.
One of my most frequent responses to being told I’m not making sense? These lines.
And...true story... I added “Do I contradict myself? Very well then, I contradict myself” to the Tinder profile that two hours later matched me to my wife.
I am Team Ralph Waldo for life.
Yes! There are galaxies within us 🥰🌌
