Great question. I just say that I'm so grateful that my family is okay *and* I'm so so sorry for the people who lost homes and loved ones. (as opposed to being grateful that "God saved my family" which implies that God chose not to save other people) I express gratitude every day for many things, but I no longer give the credit (or any blame) to God.
Yes, I've been thinking of that poem, and also 'she was on a mission' which I set to music. But I've also been thinking of a Bible verse, as paraphrased by Lou Reed in his addiction ballad Perfect Day: "You're gonna reap just what you sow."
I get that - but how do we express relief/thankfulness when we do escape? There must be a right way to do that.
